A Game that Seamlessly Blends Sound and Machine Learning

Audio Forager is a unique game that lets you experience the magic and enigma that machine learning is. The game combines more than 44,000 Freesound sounds. Freesound is basically a data set made courtesy Kyle McDonald and some Cabbibo weirdness.

Simple, Yet a Massive Range of Possibilities

To create your drum set from the smorgasbord of decadent sounds, you just have to run your hands via a sound cloud, learn the computer’s shape of mind, and choose the audio delicacies you like. All of these mechanics sound simple – navigating via a 3D sound map, selecting individual sounds for later use, and hit the sounds again for use later. However, thanks to the absolutely massive data set size, there are endless possibilities. If you want to churn out your very own piano using synth notes, you may go ahead and create one. You can get a lot more creative and fun with your creations too, such as making a marimba of crackles and pops.

Massive Data to Explore

If creating your own sound profile is not on your mind and you just want to explore the sounds or the types there are, you have more than sufficient amount of data to explore. There is just no need to play an instrument or make one. What lies in front of you is a tool to discover and understand a beautiful algorithm and data called sound. Not to mention, Freesound and Kyle McDonald have a major role to play in creating this project. Kyle, in fact, scraped audios from the Freesound website and created t-SNE embeddings.
